2009-2010

Local Planning Council Goals

For 2009-2010, the Yolo County Child Care Planning Council determined three major areas to focus their efforts: education and outreach, community and workforce development, and celebration of the Week of the Young Child.

The Educate and Outreach subcommittee plans to strengthen the relationships between Kindergarten classrooms and Preschools as well as foster relationships between college child development students and child care centers.  This subcommittee will coordinate the annual Transition to Kindergarten Summit tentatively scheduled for February 2010, arrange visits for preschool children/classes at Kindergartens in the county, and facilitate "real" experiences for child development students.

The Community and Workforce Development subcommittee will continue to coordinate opportunities for the workforce through trainings, workshops, stipends and approved scholarships to trainings.  This group will also facilitate the efforts of the Yolo County Inclusion Group by assisting in a community assessment and providing trainings and workshops targeted to working with children who have special needs. For more information about the Yolo County Inclusion Team, please click here.

The Week of the Young Child subcommittee plans to host a celebration of early childhood education through a community day in the park with family friendly activities and entertainment in April 2010.  This group also plans to develop a plan to recognize child-friendly businesses in the county.

It is the aim of the Yolo County Child Care Planning Council to recognize the importance and value of early childhood education and further assist in the development of quality child care through these efforts and others.  If you are interested in supporting early childhood in Yolo County, please join us at our monthly meetings held the first Tuesday of each month usually at the Yolo County Office of Education beginning at 2:00pm.  For more information about these goals or the LPC meetings, please email rebecca.foster@ycoe.org.
